The Cincinnati Bengals might say they don’t circle certain games when schedules are released, but their Week 2 opponent sure had to stand out above the rest. The San Diego Chargers came to Paul Brown Stadium in a rematch of the 2013 Playoff game that eliminated the Bengals.
“We owe them. They knocked us out,” said defensive tackle Domata Peko on Monday. “A lot of guys here went through that. That’s on us. It’s on our shoulders. We’ll be ready for them. We know what to expect.”
The Bengals are coming off an impressive performance against the Oakland Raiders, winning 33-13. The defense set the tone early and helped seal the game when the Raiders were down only two possessions and tried to convert a fourth-and-one, but were stuffed by the Bengals defense.
“That was a big play for us,” Peko said. “Just the way we started out on defense this first game. It sets the tempo of how we’re going to play this year,. We started out great. We just have to make sure we do it every week.”
